Mexican Game of Thrones – Frontier Partisans:

Frontier Partisans is one of my favorite blogs, and Jim, the author, always introduces me to new topics. The “Mexican Adventure” is something about which I knew very little before reading this excellent article, and now I really want to learn more. Modernization of countries was often a brutal undertaking in the 19th century, and it is fascinating to compare how modernization was achieved in vastly different regions (I’m thinking of Egypt under the rule of Muhammad Ali Pasha).
