The other person who works my shift has the flu and that’s why I haven’t had a day off in 12 days. He’s a 76 year old man, got his start in medicine as a combat medic in Vietnam. Founded most of the respiratory departments in this side of the state and a few neo natal units. Founded many of the EMS units in the area. He’s a living legend in local healthcare.

He’s still sick. I got into an argument with him and demanded that he take off today, tomorrow, Wednesday. He’s a stubborn old bastard and it took a lot of doing to convince him.

The Emergency Room called him to watch a patient who is a possible suicide risk. He said yes because he doesn’t say no to anyone, except me.  We told the supervising nurses not to call him because he is still sick, and the ER called him anyway. He’s down there coughing and hacking his lungs out and looking like a mess.

I’m so pissed off I want to kick everyone’s asses down in the ER, and I want to strangle him.
