A Complete Dress Uniform of a Captain of the Horse Guards
Comprising: 1) Helmet with silvered skull with gilt mounts; regimental badge in silver, gilt metal and red and blue enamel; leather-backed gilt chinscales; gilt and silvered spike with red horsehair plume; full leather sweatband/liner. 2) Blue wool uniform coat with red facings; cuffs, tails and collar with gold bullion acorn and leaf lace, the former with regimental buttons; gold bullion epaulets with captain’s rank insignia; gold bullion aiguillettes. 3) Leather-lined and brass-trimmed breast and backplate; leather-backed brass shoulder scales with lion’s head finials; leather waistbelt with gold thread stitching. 4) White leather breeches. 5) Pair of black leather jack boots dated 1907 and with various marks including 2nd L.G. and WD with broad arrow. 6) Pair of nickeled spurs with black leather straps. 7) A black silk cockade, or rose, said to have been worn by this officer at the funeral of Queen Victoria.
