British Pattern 1845/54 Infantry Officer’s Sword with Steel Hilt

35-inch slightly curved fullered blade by Henry Wilkinson, with etched scrolling Arabesques and Queen Victoria cypher, Gothic style pierced hilt with ‘VR’ cypher, wire-bound grip, with brass-mounted leather scabbard

The steel hilt would have originally been gilded. The regulation pattern called for a gilt brass hilt, but some officers opted for a stronger gilt steel hilt.
